It was a gorgeous day in Santa Cruz with the sun shinning on the boardwalk where the annual Clam Chowder Cook-off was held. We got there at 12:30 pm, half an hour before tasting begins, the crowd was friendly and eager to taste. Just $8 bucks for a tasting kit, you get a brown paper bag in it a cup with a spoon, 5 tickets which grants you to taste up to 5 different chowders, and a blue ticket to vote for your favorite. As I walked from one end to the other end, I noticed it was a little shorter than it was the year before. It could be a good thing or a bad thing.
The picture above is my friend, Chef Dylan France a.k.a. The Kid who's been competing for a while and makes one of the best Chowders I've tasted.
On the hunt for the perfect chowder, I was looking for creamy, buttery, and meaty chowders. I didn't have that this year, I had burnt, under season, and watery chowders that I was so disappointed to put in my mouth. I was beginning to get upset and after the third tasting, I was looking for people's reaction and asking if they liked the chowder or not and I was still disappointed. With 10 different tasting, I only got 2 good chowders that were decent. There's always next year and next year I'm going to compete.

Oh how fun! That'd be neat if you could compete next year. Have you ever been to Pismo? If you ever go there, you have to drop by "Splash" They seriously have the best tasting clam chowder I've ever tasted in my life. They always win competitions, too. :)
Sook - I've only passed by Pismo, but if I do, I'll definitely stop by Splash
